There are several very good treatments from the perspective of historic (non-dispensational) premillennialism. However much these reports differ from Paul's own writings (see Gal. i. 21, ii. 1, et al.), they interest the Jewish investigator, inasmuch as they describe the progress of the Church along the lines of the synagogue and of Jewish proselytism. They sing the song of the Lamb which, as we have seen, is the song which they alone could learn (Rev. 14:3). In his "Introd. to the Old Test." (1806) he maintained that the miraculous narratives of the Old Testament were but popular legends, which, in passing from mouth to mouth, in the course of centuries, became transformed and transfused with the marvellous and the supernatural, and were finally committed to writing in perfectly good faith. It will be a message of condemnation; to listen to it will be like a torture and the people will be glad when the two witnesses are killed (Rev. 11:10). In giving Adam a wife God made her a helpmate in these tasks, as she too, having the same human nature as Adam (unlike the other animals), is suited to this collaboration. We must infer that Mark regards the Judaism of the scribes as on a par with Baalism as a false religion which consistent Christians must shun. He was the son of Jonathan and was the grandson of Shemaiah. (Shemaiah was the son of Mattaniah and was the grandson of Michaiah. Similar observations would be made about profane authors if there was anything to be gained by doing so. And *Judah, the son of Hassenuah, was the second officer of the city. As Matthew and Luke used Mark as a source, they not only added to Mark but often modified Mark.
